The NEUST Graduate School started its operations in the second semester of School Year 1970-1971 by virtue of Board Resolution #330, s. 1970 with Master of Arts in Industrial Education major in Administration and Supervision as its first curricular offering. By subsequent Board Resolution numbers 573, s. 1979, no. 28, s. 1984, and no. 4, s. 1994, the Department expanded its curricular programs to include Master of Arts in Teaching (1975), Master in Engineering Education (1979), and Doctor of Education (1994). Earlier in 1978, a consortium between the Graduate School and the College of Public Administration of UP paved the way toward the offering of the Master in Management Courses, with majors in Public, Business, and Education Management. In 1979, these courses were formally offered. Likewise, the approval in 1980 of the Doctoral Consortium Program of NEUST, then CLPC, with the University of the Philippines, TUP and PUP had greatly helped in the enrichment and expansion of its graduate school programs.
Presently, the NEUST Graduate School offers the following programs: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Administration, Mathematics Education, Public Administration, Science Education, Education Management, Engineering Management; Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)Major in Industrial – Technological Education; Master of Education Management; Master of Public Administration; Master of Engineering Management; Master of Business Administration; Master of Business Administration for Executives; Master of Science in Information Technology major in Computer Education, Database, Network Administration, Programming and Systems Administration; Master of Arts in Industrial Education (MAIE) major in Administration and Supervision; Master of Arts in English major in Applied Linguistics and Literature; Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) major in Mathematics, Physics, General Science & Technology Vocational-Technological Education.
The abovecited development of the NEUST Graduate School by leaps and bounds was spearheaded by its first dean, Dr. Gonzalo Serezo. He was succeeded in 1990 upon his retirement by similarly dedicated and hardworking academicians in the persons of Dr. Alejandro Donato (1990 to 1996); Dr. Anita M. Chauhan (1996 to 2000); Dr. Maximo A. Macaso (2000 to 2003); Dr. Nenita L. Pongco (2003 to 2005); Dr. Angel A. Pangilinan (2005 to present).
It was during Dr. Chauhan’s term in 1997 that the graduate school first underwent voluntary accreditation of its three programs, namely, Master of Arts in Industrial Education (MAIE), Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and Master in Management (MM). This step was undertaken to validate the Department’s vision of providing quality graduate education in instruction, research, and extension not only to the Novo Ecijanos but also to its clientele in Central Luzon. Thus, on September 11, 1997, the Graduate School was awarded by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Level I accredited status. The management of the Graduate School, however, tried to further meet the challenges posed by its accredited status by trying to achieve higher accreditation level. Under the leadership of Dr. Maximo A. Macaso in Sept. 2003, and with the unquestionable support of the Graduate faculty and the University Administration, the Graduate School was awarded Level II accredited status by the AACCUP Board.
On September 18 and 19, 2003, under the leadership of Dean Nenita L. Pongco, the Graduate School had its First Resurvey Visit (Level III) by the Accrediting Agency in Chartered Colleges & Universities (AACCUP). The accreditation was a real success because of the help, support and effort of officials of the administration, faculty and cooperation by the students.
Today, the Graduate School has reached a point where there is no other way to go but higher and farther. From one master’s program offered in 1970, it has grown and developed over the years and now offers nine (9) master’s and seven (7) doctoral programs, with foreign linkages in Hongkong, Macau, Taiwan, and Mainland China.
